While getting a good night’s sleep is essential for everyone, for some it is something that constantly evades them. For some people it’s because the size of their neck or their airways is abnormal and they don’t get the breathing they need, so that’s why Dr. Avi Weisfogel is using the research at his disposal at Dental Sleep Masters to prescribe sleep treatments to patients. He’s focused on oral appliances that can help open airways and assist with breathing, but that aren’t too large and obtrusive and interrupt sleep. The science of sleep is quite a complex one, but with Avi Weisfogel’s background in dentistry he’s turned the field into one of very high interest.
At Dental Sleep Master’s, Weisfogel hosts many meetings and seminars with doctors and dentists around the world. One reason he founded this organization was that he had some experience in marketing and figured out how to make inroads in a niche that was largely untouched. Prior to that, Weisfogel was making a name for himself as one of New Jersey’s top-rated dentists, although he never found being a normal dentist to be as satisfying as his current work and Avi on Facebook.
Avi Weisfogel grew up in New Jersey and had a keen interest in both life sciences and understanding how people think. He graduated in the early 1990s from Rutgers with degrees in both biology and psychology, but decided dentistry would be the best field to apply his knowledge in. He received his DDS from New York University’s dentistry school and started his practice in Edison, NJ, though he later moved to Old Bridge where he started Old Bridge Dental Care. He won numerous awards for his outstanding work, but his interest in sleep started overtaking his normal work and while still practicing dentistry, he started the Healthy Heart Sleep foundation in 2005.
It was in 2014 that he stepped down from his regular dental practice and delved into Dental Sleep Masters. He often posts on Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook about some of the latest sleep technology and about events around Newark, NJ. He also has a GoFundMe page for Operation Smile, an international medical non-profit that provides treatment to young children in third-world countries with facial disorders and learn more about Avi.
